Vermin Composting
Vermin compost is the end product of the breakdown of organic matter from some species of earthworms. Vermin composting is different than other types of compost because it is much richer in many more nutrients, vermin composting is beneficial to the soil in several ways. It improvesthe physical structure of the soil, improves the biological properties of the soil and the water holding capacity and enhances germination and plant growth. Red worms are the most common worms used in vermin composting and right behind them is the Euro nightcrawler. Vermin compost consists mainly of worm castings and decayed organic matter.
100% pure worm castings are sifted thru a screen. These worms are fed a balanced diet of vegetable scrapes, crushed eggshells, pasta corn meal, powered milk, fruit, lawn trimmings, peat moss, and manure ( no cat or dog manure). All the wholesome and nutritional foods worms like to eat. They are fed this diet because this guarantees an abundance of nutrients in the castings. We feed this diet because we feel you get out what you put in. These castings provide many nutrients, beneficial microbes and bacteria essential for healthy plants and both delicious and nutritious vegetables and fruits. Our castings provide 5 times more nitrogen, 7 times morepotassium and 11/2 times more calcium than is found in your average 12" of topsoil, These castings also contain copper, zinc, cobalt, borox, iron and carbon.
You can also plant directly in worm castings. This is good for starting heirloom seeds, Just dry out the castings. place the castings in a seed starter container or whatever you use to start seeds. Plant the seeds in the castings just like you would put them in your potting soil and water. Then when you are ready to plant outdoors put some castings in the hole and water regularly with worm tea.
